We begin by commenting that the site that we will prepare a aquaterrariums not exactly, but is rather of a turtle. Acquired in any normal retail outlet the following:

1. Turtle. Usually glass containers (there are also PVC that are very undesirable), without cover, cut across from the rear to front up to half of the height, which contains an “island” may well be artificial to plastic or artificial turf. Be purchased as large as we can in accordance with our possibilities (space at home, in the room, you do have a balcony or terrace, etc.)

2. Termocalentador. While not recommending any professional use since the turtles might break them, the fact that these animals are still young at the time of purchase and when you can grow well protected (with a grid, for example) strongly recommend their use since they are more easily accessible, cheap and versatile on the market. The powers are different and like the turtle will look liters of water to “warm up” to know that power purchase. For just one example: I use a 25v for termocalentador of 22l capacity of turtle (the turtle actually only contains about 6-7 liters of water.) This element is essential for optimal care of our / as turtle / as, because it is tropical animals (at least in most species and especially the usual commercially available.) Building a Turtle

3. Filter. They are of two types, internal or external (cascade). My recommendation is to install an external filter such as water must be pumped from the turtle to the filter itself and is then returned through a pipe hole on top that is visibly improved oxygenation. If you can not, the installation of an internal filter is also a feasible solution for at this stage, all the internal filters are supplied with a system that generates “bubbles” (for good oxygenation of the water.)

I particularly and for reasons of Space is the second system that I have installed on my turtle. Please note: the power to overcome filtered twice (in liters) of water to be filtered and in relation to why we should buy our filter. As an observer to comment that these filters are prepared to add bacterial colonies for biological functions in the water. From my point of view, entirely expendable (except if you consciously imitate the natural habitat of the tortoise.) Filter may be dispensable (do not recommend it for any reason) that if, if you do not mind changing continuously (daily or near) the water in the turtle. Not counting the shocks that produce the turtles daily changes in water temperature!

4. Hot surface. Or what is the same, a system to heat the portion of the turtle submerged. Usually it is a special lamps (mercury vapor lamps, etc..) Emitting ultraviolet A and B and heat. Expensive. A feasible solution – well cool, by the way – can be installed on the turtle, a neon lamp chosen the correct power (in relation to the distance that the turtle is) to get the same special lamps functions but significantly lowering costs and also get a dramatic effect on your turtle. Anyway, forgive me and the experts, this system is expendable because the turtles are adapted quite well to the normal temperature of a home (15-20 º C).

The current environmental problems such as climate change, pollution and habitat loss are increasingly reducing the number of species of amphibians, as well as other living beings existing on Earth.

For this reason, environmentalists around the world have a reason, or three, to be exact-to celebrate. Recently amphibian species were found missing: a salamander of Mexico, an Ivory Coast toad and a frog in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The most amazing thing is that they had never seen the species of Mexican salamander (Chiropterotriton mosaueri) since its discovery in 1941, while no toad like Ivory Coast (Hyperolius nimbae) had appeared since 1967, and neither Congo a single frog (Hyperolius sankuruensis) since 1979.

This is the result of a worldwide search organized by Conservation International (CI) which aims to identify small populations of animals that may still be surviving the factors leading to its demise.

He was rescued by the Humane Association Refuge, in the year 2,009, are African Mastiff and was found in a state of total abandonment Alberche River, San Martín de Valdeiglesias, and now fully recuparado, find a new family.

The dog was lying on the river and the people who saw it could not get out of the river, because the animal was not even able to stand up and the area was very difficult to access, several volunteers from the association went immediately to scene and found the dog, totally depressed and unable to move apaenas. The dog, named Martin, was hospitalized at the veterinary center of the shelter.

Martin is fully recovered, is a very gentle and loving dog that is ready and willing to find a new family, his zest for life and his imposing physical appearance has nothing to do with the dog collected months earlier.

Mastiff breed is a male gray of approximately seven years old, these dogs are used to guard farms and it is believed that as we age, Martin was left, Martin was lucky and was RCOG by the volunteers of this association, and had not been dead, since the place of difficult access and the physical conditions in which it was, would have prevented him survive. Only hope that Martin will emerge a second chance and can live happily the rest of his days. Martin Luck!.

Animal News: Suki, the kitten who survived a full cycle in the washer. Very often the cause neglect of domestic accidents with pets. This time, what could have been a tragedy occurred in Australia, and its protagonist was a Siamese cat who was only seven months.

Suki went through a complete cycle in a washing machine, lather, rinse and spin, and fortunately left intact. To the surprise of Fear Liz, the owner, so far surprised to remember when you remove the clothes from the machine and with it, your pet.

A big scare for Liz, who said that Suki “his body was cold and colorless” and immediately called emergency medical services for animals. After examining the animal, the vet warned that the state desaludde Suki was very serious, but fortunately the cat survived and recovered well.

Liz and their children who watched television at the time of the accident, had noticed the absence of the pet, but figured I would be sleeping anywhere in the home, but less in the washer.

Although this story has a happy ending, leaves us a call to the responsibility of adopting a pet: it depends on us, or help prevent accidents, our animals at home.

Although I personally am not in favor of the creation of laboratory animal breeds, I must make a concession to the beautiful cat Burmés, developed from crosses between Siamese and Burmese cats.

The cat Burma is extremely affectionate, intelligent and playful. He loves the company of people-even strangers-and other animals, making it one of the best races to adopt a pet. Also a very long lifespan and can live 18 years.

The physical characteristics of Burmés cat of medium size, are also noteworthy: it has a short hair soft and shiny, which can be gray, bluish gray or chocolate, but most striking are his golden eyes, which lack the green pigment, more characteristic of cats.

Another notable feature of this cat is its adaptation to diverse environments: unlike many other pets are not stressed by travel. On the contrary, I love to travel and see new places, people and landscapes from where he can play and display his affection.

Therapy dogs in Alzheimer’s disease. They are a great help in rescue efforts for missing persons, guide dogs or drug detectors among others, but has really found his great help for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

Dogs are trained in certain functions, whose role is to contact those affected by the animal games, which help capture the attention of these people, and the other helps them to remember basic things such as numbers, colors or letters, dogs promote the expression of emotions, while the patient relax and socialize.

Sessions are often one-hour, in which the dog out for a walk together for the sick or engages in conduct games with the group of patients, such as psychomotor games, consisting of throwing the ball to the dog and it to return, memory games, which require them to perform simple mathematical operations or to recognize numbers and letters, which were about the same dog, using touch and sight.

The work is shared in these sessions, since the dogs perform such functions with the help of volunteers from the NGO, which also handle the animal, they turn all their affection in patients totally disinterested.

All his fame is due to the 22 tentacles that carries in its mouth: hypersensitive, they serve as guides to orient, to find their prey and supplant the lack of eyesight.

Diurnal carnivorous animal, the mole star measured 15 to 20 centimeters and damp living. Is an excellent swimmer-even can swim against the current-and extremely adept at digging tunnels and navigate. Basically, it feeds on worms, mollusks, aquatic insects and other invertebrates.

And hunt their prey is precisely one of the activities for which the star-nosed mole is better equipped: according to the renowned scientific journal Nature, is one of the fastest animals caught and eaten their prey, aided by his efficient 44 teeth.

It’s a dog that fits perfectly to life inside an apartment, if you are offered daily exercise, although the ideal is a field house and garden, where they face outdoors.

It has a heavy coat which requires that almost daily brushing to keep it in good condition and remove all dead hair, especially in times of molting, so that will make it look beautiful and healthy and prevent turn, produced skin diseases.

Two baths are recommended annually, provided that it is regular care of brushing hair. You can avoid the problem of plaque by brushing your teeth regularly with a toothbrush and special toothpaste for dogs.

The Akita Inu is a strong dog and although there are no known breed-specific diseases, is prone to hip dysplasia and problems with their knees, as well as immune system diseases and disorders of the thyroid gland. Their life expectancy stands at 10 years, but with good care, more than 12 years.
