Butterflies
Mariposa is a common term in zoology, common name that refers to individuals of the insect order of Lepidoptera. The characteristics of the butterflies in their adult stage are three pairs of legs (like all insects) and two pairs of wings covered with colored scales varied between species. The butterflies lay eggs that give rise to larvae called caterpillars. The latter produce silk, and are then a cocoon, or chrysalis, which is transformed into a butterfly.
